04-28-2010: Access Solutions' attention to detail avoids potential drops.
As part of Access Solutions' Ownership Spirit, our resources are always on the lookout to remove opportunities that might result in Foreign Material Intrusions. Two recent examples from this season are as follows:
- Construction was taking place over the new upper half bearing, located just outside of our zone. At the time, there were no FME barriers protecting the oil ports, bolt holes or the insulator pad so we brought this to our customer's attention and they fully covered the area.
- Scaffolding was erected to work both ends of the horizontal cooler leaving a six inch gap between the scaffold and an open Stator area below. We had the carpenters go back and seal that opening for added protection as anything dropped was bound to fall into this critical opening, causing significant downtime.
04-27-2010: Access Solutions’ recording methodology enables focus on critical items.
Access Solutions’ FME Technician was formally recognized by its customer’s project management team as having a significant role in assuring all FME Barriers were removed prior to the reassembly of the Bearings. Congratulations for a Job Well Done!
04-24-2010: Access Solutions’ ownership spirit avoids potential generator failure & unplanned downtime.
Access Solutions’ methodologies and procedures records absolutely everything that enters critical work zones including where long term items are located. A piece of decking made of wood was temporarily removed. Carpenters came out with a few broken boards and a lot of bent and broken screws. The carpenter foreman presented the head of a screw suggesting that the shank was still in the board underneath of the removed items and that it could be found when the remaining decking was later removed. Our team member brought it up to our customer’s project management team who agreed that it be found now versus waiting. Access Solutions’ records enabled confirmation that the shank was in fact missing and enabled a focused search that expedited its recovery. The shank was found on the Isophase Baffle under the generator. According to the project management engineer, this was a significant find that avoided additional downtime and potential significant equipment damage.
04-22-2010: Access Solutions’ attention to detail assists in equipment assembly.
Access Solutions’ process includes detailed training of the components that are being disassembled and reassembled. Access Solutions’ Team Member discovered that the number of washers that were involved in the reassembly of a component on a turbine did not match what had been removed. Instead of assuming it was okay, he brought it up to the project management’s supervisor who was able to confirm and correct the situation within minutes versus having to go back and correct the issue later.
11-05-2009: Access Solutions Recognized for its attention to detail and continuous improvement.
As part of our standard process, Access Solutions’ FME Technician took extra care to confirm that all parts including the safety lock washers were in the same condition upon exit as it was recorded upon entrance of a port-a-power. Noticing one of the lock washers was missing, she brought it to the attention of our customer’s project management and the collective recorded it as a drop. Access Solutions’ records enabled a focused search, expediting its recovery. In addition, as Access Solutions maintains a formal internal process of best practices and lessons learned, its information showed that this had occurred now a number of times. This being the case, Access Solutions took pictures of the applicable item and forwarded it to its customer’s Quality Assurance and Asset Management organizations for review and further handling.
